Federer sets up semis clash with Murray
World number two Roger Federer beat Fernando Verdasco 6-3, 7-6 (7/5) on Thursday to book a semi-final meeting with Andy Murray at the Indian Wells hardcourt tennis tournament.
Federer, a three-time champion who is seeded second behind world number one Rafael Nadal, took his record to 3-0 over the 10th-seeded Spaniard, but it wasn't plain sailing.
He led the second set 4-1 before Verdasco broke him twice to take a 6-5 lead, forcing Federer to break in the 12th game to avoid a third set.
Federer took a 6-2 lead in the tiebreaker, but needed four match points to put Verdasco away.
